What does your nose feel like after an augmentation?

I'm thinking about having a nasal augmentation but would like to know what typical results feel like to the touch. Is your nose as flexible as before? Can you pinch it, squeeze it, rub it like before? Is there a dent at the bridge?

Thanks for your question. After the healing process is completely over and swelling has gone down, your nose will feel just as it did pre-operation. It really depends upon what the augmentation material is. Nasal cartilage augmentation feels very natural as it were part of your own Bridge line. Ear cartilage tends to be more stiff and hard. Rib cartilage  becomes ossified and feels like bone and is very stiff inside the nose.   Synthetic materials can also feel soft or hard depending upon which one is used.

I am not exactly sure what you are asking. If you are just having dorsal onlay augmentation, the tip is often not treated and once the swelling goes down, the tip is often fairly mobile.  If the tip has a rigid columella strut to the anterior nasal spine, then it might not feel soft.

There should be no noticeable dent in the bridge and the nose should feel natural. We fashioned implants and grafts should be virtually indistinguishable from your own tissues. However, depending upon the health and/or thickness of the nasal skin the dorsal augmentation material may be more 'readable' than at other times. My preference for first time dorsal augmentation is an implant since they are constructed in such a way as to blend in with the surrounding tissues more imperceptibly.  Best of Luck  Dr Harrell

Nasal augmentation is usually done on the dorsum and depending on what type of material used, the dorsum may feel hard or mobile, somewhat ridged or natural. If silicone implant or rib cartilage are used, then it feels hard and mobile for the former and immobile for the latter. Your nasal tip should not feel much different even if cartilage grafts are placed.

I would use your own tissue for a dorsal graft. This can be several layers thick.Grafts of septal cartilage are supposed to look and feel like the real tissue.Sometimes the graft is mobile and can be moved about. The thicker the skin the better the result as it would hide minor flaws .
