Hi, all. I had gyno surgery done about 5 weeks ago. Generally I am quite pleased with my results, especially on my right side. The contour of the chest is much improved. However, one concern I do have is the asymmetry of the nipples. Both started off swollen and enlarged shortly after the procedure but the right one has shrunk down to the size it was pre-op, if not smaller in terms of diameter, which is good. The left, however, is sometimes 2 or 3 times larger. Is this normal at this stage?

Your result will continue to evolve.  It is also likely that you had pre-existing asymmetries.  The chest contour looks excellent at thsi time and will continue to improve.  Dr. G

At 5 weeks it is too early to see your final results, it is not unusual for your chest to heal differently on each side. Wait until 6 months or more for your final result. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon. Good luck.

In general the contour of your chest looks good. There is a small amount of asymmetry of the size of the areolas. This could be due to some residual isue beneath the nipple. However, it is most likely that you had some asymmetry before surgery which is just persisting. Check out your pre-op photos to be sure.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question and photograph. Unfortunately without being able to feel your tissue it is difficult to offer advice.  The enlargement may be the result of continued tissue swelling since surgery or may be residual glandular tissue.  Best to allow your results time to mature over the next 5 months and then revisit your results.  A revision, if needed, can then be performed.

Hello, and thank you for your question. (Keep in mind that an in-person consultation is necessary for the best advice.) It is still early after your surgery. Swelling often takes 3-6 months to resolve. Scars will soften with massage and with time. The puffiness may improve. Be patient, and follow up with your plastic surgeon. Best of luck!

you need to allow more like 6-12 months, before you assess your final result. however, i would also caution you that whenever we have 2 of anything (eg breasts, ears, eyelids etc) the 2 sides will NEVER be exactly the same and i suspect, if you look closely at your pre op pics, there will be differences between the 2 sides. Also remember too, that we are our own worst critic and you will notice things you don't like about yourself, far more than anyone else will see about you.david berman md

It is not uncommon for each side to look different at this stage of recovery.  Everything should settle over the next few weeks.  Remember each side of the chest can heal at a different rate.  They are brothers, not twins.
