Do you recommend masseter Botox or filler to achieve a slimmer looking face?

Hello, I have a round face and would like to slim it down a bit. I was looking into getting masseter Botox. Will this slim my face? Or would something like filler in my cheeks give me better results? It’s just very round looking in pics I’d like a more structured face, thank you

Thank you for sharing your question.  Although a limited view, it appears that you have excellent cheek volume and shape.  If the width of you back jawline is the result of masseter enlargement or hypertrophy, Botox is a good option to help slim your profile.  Hope this helps.

Additional photos showing profile and three-quarter views would have been helpful, particularly for assessing chin projection and jawline.  Nevertheless, the use of Botox to slim the masseter muscles and taper the lower face has become quite a common procedure nowadays, one which has particularly sought after among Asian women. Treating the masseters in this fashion is not an area for novice injejctors of Botox accustomed only to treating simple "Eleven Lines" in the glabella region. So, do your due diligence and make sure you consult with a board certified aesthetic physician with experience and expertise in performing masseter injections. Best of luck.

Volume and contouring of the cheeks can be created with well-placed fillers (Voluma, Radiesse, Bellafill) and Sculptra. Implants or fat are alternatives. Botox and radiofrequency can help slim and contour the jawline. Liposuction can help slim the face. Ultherapy, J Plasma and RF treatments can provide skin tightening and lift. You may have large masseter muscles. However, it appears to me more likely that you have a wide jaw.  We do a lot of jaw contouring surgery. It's done through the inside of the mouth and takes about 1 hour.I'd suggest you consider being evaluated for something like that.Watch our videos to learn more.

From the photographs it would appear that you have good cheek volume so as a starting point to give a slimmer lower face/ heart shape I would address the masseters first.  However a consultation would be the first thing to have as photographs aren’t always ideal. Masseter botox would slim down the width of the lower face. Plus if you suffer from teeth grinding this would also be reduced.

Thank you for your question and picture! Botox to the masseter muscle can slim down the face in patients that have an overactive and strong masseter muscle. It looks like you may be a good candidate but I would need to do an in person physical exam to asses your muscle function. If you are a good candidate, it takes about 20-30 unites of Botox on each side to help relax the muscle and slim down the jaw line. Most patients require 2-4 sessions for optimal results. I recommend consulting a board certified plastic surgeon or expert injector to see if Botox is right for you!

Thank you for posting your photos with your intetesting question. Botox injections to the masseter muscles are very helpful in slimming the lower face. It will change your face from square to a softer and more triangular shape naturally. It usually takes 20 units of Botox per side or a total of 40 units and about 2 weeks to reduce the size if the masseters. Please bring a photo of yourself from several years ago at the time of your consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who is experienced with facial aesthetics. To furthur enhance your results, I would recommend filler, like Sculptra, in your temples, near your hairline. This will restore  more youthful proportions.
