Should I go to a dentist or cosmetic dermatologist for Botox to treat masseter muscle hypertrophy?

I've decided to get botox to help with the facial asymmetry from my bruxism. One of my masseter muscles has hypertrophy. I can't decide which type of provider would have the most expertise and experience with injecting the botox. I know cosmetic dermatologist do Botox injections regularly, however since this is bruxism would a dentist who does botox be better since he may see these type of cases more often

There are many different providers who may have the skill set to perform injections for bruxism. One of the more important aspects is seeing a provider who can make an assessment to help determine the cause of your issues prior to making treatment recommendations.

Thanks for your question.  You might want to research how much experience your dentist has using Botox.  Most dermatologists use Botox on a daily or frequent basis, and masseter injections are easy and very rewarding for bruxism and also for contouring the face.   Just be sure your dentist is very experienced with the procedure if you choose that route.  Otherwise, I would recommend a board certified dermatologist with great outcomes.  Best of luck, it is a very useful and beautiful procedure when done right!

Big debate here. Now if a dentist who specialises in Bruxism does Botox every day, or even several times a day- he or she is experienced. Most procedural dermatologist will perform Botox at LEAST a dozen times daily, and most will treat Bruxism daily. So, its the experience of the individual that counts. Most good dermatologist will also test your temporalis muscle ( that is a good test to see who is experienced, in some cases this has a role in Bruxism). I always combine this with a splint at night.
