Flu like symptoms after Botox injections for TMJ. 1 week post-op.

Question

I had a total of 60 units of Botox injected into my jaw for TMJ (I grind my teeth at night). This was on 7/18/18 and on 7/21/18 I began feeling the chills, then I had a fever of 104 degrees, I woke up drenched in sweat yet I was feeling cold, my whole body aches, Sore throat, ears ringing. I had nausea and vomiting which has now subsided. No swelling or redness at the injection site. I am a healthy 5’10 125 lb 24 year old female. Is having nasty flu like symptoms a normal side effect of Botox?

Thank you for your question.  Unfortunately, your symptoms do sound very flu like.  These symptoms would not be related to your Botox treatment.  Hope you feel better.  Good luck.

This is unlikely due to your Botox treatment. If you're concerned, I recommend speaking with your Doctor. It takes 1-2 weeks for final results with Botox. Best, Dr. Emer

Botox should not cause the symptoms you are describing. It sounds like you are having some sort of a viral infection. You need to see your primary physician if symptoms persists.

No, this isn't typical. If it persists, I suggest following up with your Doctor. Botox results resolve in 3-4 months. Hope this helps.
