I'm 21 years old with no kids. But quite the tummy. My surgeon suggested liposuction. But I was wondering if the aggressive lipo, could cause stretch marks from the immediate fat loss? Or will my skin just shrink?
Answer: Stretch marks? Thanks for posting your photos. Liposuction does not cause stretch marks and you seem to be an acceptable candidate since you're so young and having been pregnant. Good luck on your upcoming procedure. Warmest regards, Dr. ALDO

Answer: Liposuction will not cause stretch marks. You will be surprised by how much skin shrinkage can occur after liposuction and how great you will look. Lipo does not cause stretch marks at all.

Answer: Liposuction and stretch marks (striae) Stretch marks (aka striae) are dermal tears of the deeper layers of the skin which can be seen through the stretched but intact layers above. They are commonly seen when skin is stretched beyond its elastic limit. They are common post pregnancy or in the setting of massive weight gain/loss. They are often times seen as a hallmark of skin which has lost some of it's inherent tone i.e. loose or sagging skin.Liposuction will not cause stretch marks. They may become increasingly apparent post liposuction (or abdominoplasty). Of greater concern post aggressive liposuction is loose or sagging skin. It is not possible to predict the degree of skin contraction. Generally, patients with loose or sagging skin pre-op will likely have loose or sagging skin post op. The only solution for excess skin is an abdominoplasty.Based upon your photos, you appear to be a reasonable candidate for liposuction. However, you should have an earnest discussion with your plastic surgeon regarding your options and the potential for worsening potential skin excess issues. As always, discuss your concerns with a board certified plastic surgeon.

Answer: Liposuction Hello and thank you for your question. Based on your photograph, you are a candidate for waistline contouring liposuction of your abdomen, flanks, and likely lower back. This can improve your overall shape with a smaller waist. Make sure you specifically look at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results. The most important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate you in person. Best wishes and good luck. Richard G. Reish, M.D. Harvard-trained plastic surgeon
