Hi there, I recently had a veneer placed on my incisor. It needed to be wider since I had an impacted canine (surgically removed). However, I've been noticing this dark spot - growing and getting darker. What could be causing it? I won't be able to visit my dentist for a while. how dangerous is it to leave this untreated for a few months? Thanks!
Answer: Leakage under a porcelain veneer This is either leakage, as in a gap exists allowing bacteria IN, or poor moisture control when it was bonded in place (but no open gap or new bacteria entering). Most of the time it is the latter, so it isn't decay or much risk of decay (the chromogenic bacteria already entered and died, so it is ugly but not dangerous). The problem is you don't know which it is until you fix it.There is no other solution than to replace it, but it likely isn't urgent (as in a few weeks). If you wait a LONG time, then it can become a bigger issue.

Answer: What to do for Infection under ceramic veneer? What could be causing it? (Photo) The cause of your problem could be due to problems and here are your options:1-Basically your porcelain veneer did not fit your tooth perfectly.Consequently there is micro leakage, meaning bacteria growing under your veneer, which first it looks like dark stain and can cause cavity and sensitivity on your front tooth, My suggestion is to see an expert dentist or a cosmetic dentist to replace the veneer.2- There is possibility that you had inflamed gums during the bonding procedure of veneer, ( meaning bleeding when your dentist wanted to bond your veneer), then unfortunately the whit bonded material incorporated with the blood, and shows like dark black area on your dental veneer. Bonding veneers are very technique sensitive, and requires strict protocol, with no bleeding gums.If cost of redoing your porcelain veneer is a big issue, there is possibility of repairing the stained infected area, by not removing the whole veneer, but just remove the stained porcelain, and the decay underneath if any, and have a good cosmetic dentist bond a composite bond to the porcelain and color match it. I have done many cases like this to help the patients in regards to the cost.

Answer: Leaking #veneer ... #DrSarahThompson #RealSelf100 Hello NYCgirl,Looks like there is some leakage behind your veneer. This is allowing bacteria to enter the area and set-up shop. This could be harmful to your tooth over the next couple of months as the bacteria begins to eat into your tooth prep (under the veneer). If this happens, it could lead to a cavity that will only grow in size. The cavity can grow to the point where the prep actually breaks and you need to get the tooth root pulled. This will lead to you needing an implant in that area or bridge. So, leaving it like it is will cost a lot more in the future. I wouldn't let this tooth stay like this for longer than 1 month. Good luck and I hope this helps. Follow me if you have more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMDSt. Louis, MO area (O'Fallon, IL)Real Self 100

Answer: Leaking veneer Thanks for posting the picture. That is called micor-leakage. It is bacteria growing undewr a veneer that isn't properly sealed. I would suggest visiting your dentist ASAP. You will develope decay in this area if it continues, not to mention that it is ugly.

Answer: Did colored veneer It appears there is either some leakage under the veneer or something got under it during insertion. tuere is not a huge problem waiting to see your dentist. But most likely if the discoloration is getting worse the veneer has a good chance of popping off
