Answer: Tooth pain following #veneers ... #DrSarahThompson Hello there,Sorry to hear that you're in so much pain since getting veneers. I would highly suspect that you may need an adjustment done by your current dentist. For some people are a lot more sensitive to any change that is made to their teeth. For this reason, it is sometimes necessary for you to return to your dentist to have an adjustment made. An adjustment should not really take longer than about 10-20 minutes in the dental chair. It is usually not painful at all, but if you are already in a great deal of pain, then your dentist may need to get you numb before adjusting. If you have already had an adjustment, it is not unheard-of to need a second adjustment appointment. However, it is much more rare to need a third adjustment appointment. I strongly encourage you to keep in contact with your current dentist, because this will ensure that a solution is found quickly and it doesn't end up costing you more money at another dental office. Good luck and I hope this info helps you. Follow me if you have more questions.Sarah Thompson, DMDSt. Louis, MORealSelf100

Answer: Teeth I sense two different problems. The first is that the idea of a standard amount reduction is specious. Reduction is based on many different factors. So there is no standard. If your teeth ached with temps then the problem should have been diagnosed at that time. The second problem is your jaw pain. I'm going to paint a scenario for you and please tell me if I'm not far from wrong. The reason you wanted veneers was because your front teeth became short and chipped on the edges. If H'm dead wrong then ignore the rest...if I'm right, then you have s temporomandibular joint problem that caused your bite to change over the years, thereby wearing away front teeth. Having new veneers now keeps your lower jaw from moving the way it did before and thereby causes your muscles to be in chronic spasm. There's more to the story than I want to type so if you wish to discuss it please get a hold of me through this site.

Answer: Sensitive teeth after veneers There could be a number of reasons for the pain. Not seeing the radiographs prior to treatment and knowing how much reduction was necessary it is hard to comment .I would suggest going back to the dentist for a bite check and if the pain localizes to one tooth, root canal treatment may be necessary. I would give it a little more time if the pain is liveable.

Answer: Tooth sensitivity and jaw pain caused by clenching and grinding One of the common causes of tooth sensitivity is clenching or grinding teeth. This will also cause soreness in the jaw. I always recommend a plastic guard to protect veneers and limit the effects of clenching or grinding. Since you just recently had the veneers placed, you may want to first have your dentist perform a bite adjustment to even out the way your teeth hit when you bite. Also, any time a tooth is drilled on there is a chance that the tooth could end up requiring a root canal. It sounds like your dentist is not concerned yet, but if the pain continues after adjusting bite and wearing a night guard, you may need to consider root canal treatment.
