See through porcelain veneers. Any suggestions?

I had 4 porcelain veneers fitted about a week ago and initially couldn't have been happier they look amazing. However when on holiday I was in the bathroom, which has super bright light, and I can see through the veneers and see the real tooth stumps behind them. I was really self conscious of my smile before and now I'm back to square one as feel every time I smile people can see the real teeth behind them!!!

Hello Kris,It's hard to say without actually seeing a photo of your teeth, but generally, you want your veneers to be a little see-through (like real teeth), but not see-through so much that you can see the tooth prep behind them.  Before getting too self-conscious, I would recommend asking your close friends and family how they like your teeth.. If everyone says that they look fantastic, then I would not worry much about what you saw in "super bright light."  Good luck and I hope this info helps you. Krisde83,  What you are describing is a natural and normal for veneers.  Veneers are nothing more than thin pieces of glass bonded onto your natural tooth structure.  In "normal" light situations they will look amazing just like you said.  In the types of lighting that no one will really ever look at you under, there may be a difference.  Keep this in mind, No one ever gets as close to your face as you can in a mirror as I suspect you were within an inch of it when you were looking at your veneers.  And, no one will be looking at you under incredibly bright light.  My advice to my patients is that veneers will look beautiful on them within social distance but as soon as you break into that "personal space" little inconsistencies will start to appear. Often these a purposely designed into the veneer to make them look as natural as possible.  If the veneers were without the translucency you are describing, they would look chalky and fake.  Hold a mirror out at arms length and look at your veneers, do they look good?  If so, they will look that way to everyone else too.  Put away your insecurity and doubt and be happy with your amazing new smile.  :)

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelainand will always be transparent in some way ,so its normal to have this type of translucent view through the veneer,if you do not want to see this you should switch to zyrconium crowns , this would be the only way to have something more aesthetical.
