Hardening and pain a month after Juvederm. What could be wrong?

Last month I had Juvederm injected into my nasolabial folds. Yesterday I woke up and the right side felt bruised and was hard where the product was placed. This hasn't gone away. The area is also painful to the touch. What could be wrong?

This isn't typical. I recommend following up with your injector for a formal evaluation. If necessary, this can be reversed with hyaluronidase. It may take a series of treatments. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Please see your doctor for assessment.  It is possible that an infection needs to be treated or some of the Juvederm needs to be dissolved.

Thank you for your question.  What you describe is unusual.  I would recommend seeing your treating doctor as soon as possible in order to make the correct diagnosis.  Infection is one possible cause of your symptoms.  Hope this helps and best wishes!

It is unusual to have hardness a month after injection. You should see your injector to see if you are ok and do not have an infection.

Sounds like you should be seeing your treating physician. Until you see him or her I would apply warm compresses and look at the situation as if there might be a dental problem as well. Good luck on New York City

A late complication with bruising is suggestive of a spontaneous area of bleeding, but could also be inflammatory reaction. Infection is unusual as a late complication, but is a consideration. Please see your injector as soon as possible to be treated (anti-inflammatory medication, cool compresses, antibiotic). It is not surprising that this has not changed much over 1-2 days. If there is a sizeable bruise (= hematoma), then that will take weeks to resorb. Don't delay seeing your injector! Best wishes.
