Is more pain day 2 normal?

Hello and thank you for your question. Day 2 postoperative pain is very normal. In my practice, I inject pain medication into the nerves that provide sensation to the chest when I am performing any breast augmentation surgery. Although this does help greatly, the pain will increase once the pain medication wears off later in the day. I would recommend taking the pain medication prescribed by your surgeon at this point. If the pain is still severe, a muscle relaxant may need to be added. This usually helps. 
I think you are perfectly ok holding water bottles, but I would ask your surgeon for his opinion.

it is not unusual to feel pain at day 2 after surgery. Most plastic surgeons have protocols regarding pain management. If you have concerns it is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.

Thank you for your question and photo.  You are very early in your post operative course.  The first three days after most operations are rough.  We instruct our patients to use ice and elevate their head of bed about 30 degrees.  We found this to help with swelling and discomfort.  Each Board Certified Plastic Surgeon may have a different program, so make sure you talk with them and share your concerns.  Jeffrey J. Thank you for your questions.  Post op day 2 discomfort is typically normal.  I typically recommend my patients to get up and move around as much as they can and if they could switch from pain medication to regular Tylenol asap.  I would recommend when resting to rest in a upward position with an extra pillow or two.  If you feel it's too much pain then I recommend calling and or following up with your surgeon.  Best of luck to you. 

Thank you for your question. Some pain and discomfort can be expected even on day 2 as your body begins healing. It is not uncommon to have swelling. Breasts may not heal at the same rate, causing one breast to appear different than the other. Activity restrictions after breast augmentation are related to the healing and maturation of the pocket around the implant. For the first 2 weeks, patients are instructed to restrict lifting to less than 20 pounds. The majority of patients feel so good by postop day 3 or 4 they struggle to remain compliant with restrictions. Follow up with your board certified plastic surgeon. Good luck!

Sharp shooting pains or throbbing pain are not uncommon after surgery. These are usually caused by regenerating severed nerves during the procedure. If the pain is no longer tolerable and it disturbs your sleeping pattern, it would be best to consult with your surgeon for pain medication. Pain, swelling and bruising usually resolves naturally after around 6 months when the body has fully healed.

Your question doesn’t state whether you were prescribed any pain medication and, if so, if you are taking it as prescribed.  Swelling increases by day two and this could contribute to pain.  Some degree can be expected with any procedure so you need to “stay ahead” of it by taking medication as prescribed.
