I've got a sliding genioplasty planned next year with 3mm horizontal and 2mm vertical advancement, but I'm afraid it'll make my chin appear too narrow/pointy and stick out too much from the frontal view. Not sure if I should pull through with the surgery, any advice?

Answer: Sliding genioplasty versus implant A sliding genial plasty will not give lateral projection at all.A sliding genial plasty will not give lateral projection at all. Based on your single picture it appears you could use some volume on the sides of your chin as well. When making an assessment for chin surgeryreview the chin in context to the face.I understand the desire to maintain anonymity. Without showing at least your mid face we can’t really make a good assessment in regards to what is ideal surgical correction. The profile is also a more important view than a frontal picture.not including a profile picture is probably the main reason no one is going to give you a good assessment or recommendationin regards topotentially getting excessive projection. Talk to your provider about options. If your provider is comfortable doing both procedures then here she should be able to steer you in the right direction. You could also get a few new in person consultations. if you choose a sliding genioplasty then you are choosing a procedure that doesn’t give lateral projection. That is simply the inherent limitation of that procedure as well as a few others.that’s not to say chin implants don’t have their set of issues as well. Fillers work very nicely on the lateral aspect of the chin though it is a temporary treatment and may not be something you’re interested in. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
