Hello, Would I be a better candidate for sliding genioplasty or chin implant? Which is cheaper? I heard of orthognathic surgery but I don't think I would consider that given how expensive it is..... Also, I would even consider chin fillers because it's more convenient as there's no surgery involved. But the downside is that they're only temporary. I would really appreciate an expert's input on what procedure might be the best for me. Thank you!
Answer: Sliding genioplasty vs chin implant Chin implants work best when you only need improvement in the horizontal direction. You need an increase in your height as well, so a sliding genioplasty would give you a better result. A sliding genioplasty in experienced hands is about a 30min procedure with same day discharge home.

Answer: Genioplasty and chin implants I perform both procedures and for horizontal advancements greater than 5 mm I prefer the genioplasty procedure. Both procedures are performed in the office with intravenous sedation. The genioplasty procedure moves your own chin forward and provides the most natural results. The muscles of the chin will re-attach to the bone as opposed to a chin implant that becomes encapsulated. Based on your photos, you would benefit from an advancement greater than 5 mm so I would recommend a genioplasty. In my experience, the recovery times are similar for both procedures. Orthognathic surgery is unnecessary if you are satisfied with your bite . Good luck

Answer: Chin Implant vs Sliding Genioplasty I think your idea of sliding genioplasty may not be the orthognathic surgery that you mentioned in your question. Typically orthognathic surgery addresses your bite and can involve moving her entire mandible forward in a procedure called bilateral sagittal split osteotomy or BSSO. This procedure is involved and has a prolonged recovery period. A sliding genioplasty only involves moving the bottom portion of the mandible bone in either the horizontal versus vertical plane (without affecting your bite). The sliding genioplasty is more versatile as I can give you vertical height as well as anterior projection. A chin implant typically only gives you anterior projection and if placed very low can give you a slight vertical augmentation. The recovery period for both a sliding genioplasty inch implant are fairly similar. Depending on the area, the cost may be different however.

Answer: Chin Augmentation Options If you are looking for the the most economical approach to your chin augmentation then an implant would be used. If you are looking for the best aesthetic and long-term result than a sliding genioplasty would be better. With a short chin and overbite your chin augmentation needs both horizontal augmentation with some vertical increase for which a sliding geniplasty accomplished these changes the best.

Answer: Which is better for me: sliding genioplasty or chin implant? A sliding genioplasty is performed by an oral surgeon under general anesthesia in a hospital setting with an overnight stay at the hospital and is much more invasive. A sliding genioplasty is performed when the teeth are significantly out of alignment. A chin implant is placed under local anesthesia which takes approximately 30 minutes, and It is much less invasive. For many examples of chin implants, please see the link below
