What is this flesh colored bump on my lip line? Should I see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon? (Photo)

Question

For as long as I can remember, I've had this skin colored bump on the center of my lip. I would like to get it removed, even if it is not very noticeable, as it looks like a pimple. It's soft to the touch and painless, but I really have no idea what it could be. Not sure if this is something I should see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon about (or both). Thanks!

I would say that this bump could be handled effectively by either a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon.  It may be a candidate for a punch excision, with some stitches, and then send the lesion to pathology.

It might be a small nevus which is benign.  A small excision or biopsy can be done but it will leave a permanent scar.

I'd have to disagree respectfully with the post below. I would recommend seeing a dermatologist who is the only specialist with dedicated training in the medical, therapeutic and surgical management of the skin. If you see someone who is not trained in the skin they will most likely biopsy it and may not send it to the right pathology sub specialist. Most dermatologists are extremely capable of biopsying a lesion on the face.

Hi,Difficult to say without examining it. However, if I where to guess , I would say it may either be a cyst or intradermal nevus. For removal, I would suggest a plastic surgeon that could remove and send for biopsy.Best,Dr.S.
