Can fillers be used on eleven lines (instead of Botox)?

Question

I know Botox is the standard treatment for this issue, but I would like to avoid using it. If HA fillers can be used on nasolabial folds, I don't see why they can't be used on eleven lines, as well.

The eleven lines or glabelar lines, best repond to Botox... Sometimes where the procerus or corrugators are way to strong you can get the maximal dosage fot that area for a good result to take place. You can combine for maximal result if the lines persist after botox placement.

The lines between the brows are entirely created by muscle activity so using fillers will not really work since the muscles will continue to contract and continually create the creases.  For this reason, toxins are your best choice and from a price standpoint, also your best value.Another serious consideration is that the area you are describing is rich in tiny blood vessels which are at risk for both clotting and/or allowing fillers to travel and occlude other blood vessels such as the one to your eye.  Even in the hands of experts, complications have occurred.My suggestion is to use the treatment that actually "fixes" the problem and in this case it will be a muscle relaxer.In good health,Ellen Mahony, MD

Great question. The glabellar area or elevens is best prevented by botox. If the wrinkles are static and deep then fillers will help to soften the wrinkles. Now to prevent them from coming back the best option is botox or another muscle relaxant.

Yes, fillers can be used to reduce the resting ‘eleven’ lines that appear between the eyebrows. Fillers work by filling in the creases in the skin by re-supporting the lost tissue both within and below the skin. 
Another alternative is to use Botox in combination with fillers. Patients sometimes prefer this because it can allow the fillers to last longer. 
It is important to keep in mind that applying fillers in the eleven-lines area is riskier and more difficult than using fillers in other areas, so it is best to select a physician that is dedicated exclusively to providing cosmetic injectables.

The 11-lines are usually a combination of dynamic lines and static lines. Dynamic lines are caused by muscle contraction and will improve with Botox, which temporarily reduces the strength of the muscles. Static lines are etched into the skin from the repeated muscle movements and can be improved with filler. However this is a high risk area for filler injection, which can cause complications like skin necrosis or vision loss. I usually advice my patients to start with Botox and see how they like the results, before using filler in that area. Make sure that you see an experienced board-certified physician for evaluation and treatment. Good luck!

There are times that you can apply dermal fillers in the area for added improvement. However, a dermal filler does not address the dynamic muscle which is the reason that botox is the preferred treatment in the 11s. Consult in person with an experienced and expert physician injector to understand your options.

While HA fillers technically can be used for this area, I would strongly advise against it. The risk of complications, most notably skin necrosis, is in my opinion too high. Because I feel the potential risks of injecting filler in this area of the face are greater than the potential benefit, I no longer perform filler injections in the 11's at my practice. I have seen cases of necrosis in this area due to filler, and trust me, it is not something you want. Toxins really are the best option for treating the 11's. Good luck.

Botox is the standard for treating these lines since they will freeze the area for atleast 3 months.  Fillers can be used once the area is "frozen" with Botox, otherwise it will have limited benefit in that area.  Please consult an expert in Botox for the best cosmetic results. Best, Dr. Green

You can certainly use fillers in the elevens but my preference is Botox.  Injecting fillers in this area has higher risks of complications such as skin necrosis as there are blood vessels in this area.  I would certainly make sure your injector is experience in doing this and understands complications as well as how to take care of them.  In addition, injection in this area has a rare complication of potentially causing blindness.  I do not inject fillers in this area but again you have to consult your injector
