Defining my jawline: will CoolSculpting do it? (Photos)

Question

I'm 31 & have always had a round face (despite being relatively slim with weight/height of around 105lbs/5 ft 1). Over the last year or two, I have noticed what seems like jowls around my jawline. I am not sure if they're jowls or excess fat (or if that's the same thing) but the lack of definition & bulges is really getting me down! I have heard CoolSculpting could be an option but would like to know how bad my problem is & if would require 2 treatments/tightening treatments too. Thanks all!

Patients interested in contouring their jawline have a few different options available for them, including CoolSculpting, Kybella, and liposuction. CoolSculpting, using the new CoolMini applicator, has helped many patients in reducing submental fullness. Sometimes, patients can benefit from multiple treatments in this area. Kybella and liposuction have also shown great results for patients. Although effective, I find that most of my patients who have done a coolmini end up wanting liposuction to get more contouring. VASER liposuction in combination with ThermiRF are best for contouring the chin in those who are candidates but Kybella can be used as an alternative with or without thermage/ultherapy/exilis. Thank you for your question. It can be difficult to asses from those pictures, so i highly recommend that you visit a cosmetic dermatologist in your area for a full consultation. That being said, based on your concerns coolSculpting may be an option if there is enough fat in the area, however that can't be decided through those pictures. There is another treatment that may be better suited for you, Ulthera. It is a device that combines ultrasound technology with heat to stimulate a collagen response. This will help to lift and tighten the area, creating a stronger jawline. You should see great results, especially because you have youth on your side. Again you should consult a doctor before doing anything, so that you spend your money wisely and get the best treatment! Good luck!

Your profile does not display enough submental fat which is required for the Coolsculpting procedure and is very hard to make that decision without evaluating you in person. It is possible you might benefit from skin tightening treatments, have a consultation with an expert physician/surgeon who can guide you in the right direction.

I would see an experience physician for an in person evaluation. You look like you need more skin tightening of the lower face.  From the photos it doesn't appear that you have a significant amount of submental fat.

With the recent development of the cool mini applicator, Cool Sculpting is now effective and treating submental fat, sometimes known as a double chin. It is quite effective at reducing the fat and tightening the skin under the chin and jawline that it may help better define your neck. It would be best for you to have your neck and jawline assessed by a Cool Sculpting expert to determine if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

Thank you for your question. CoolSculpting is a great way to reduce fullness caused by excess fat in the submental (under the chin) region. While it is difficult to tell for sure without examining you in person, your photos seem to demonstrate more skin laxity than fat excess; this suggests CoolSculpting might not be the best answer for you. One excellent minimally invasive option for skin tightening is FaceTite (bipolar radio frequency energy).

Thank you for your question. Coolsculpting with the new Coolmini can be an efficacious non-invasive treatment for submental fat reduction. We also offer Kybella which we have seen many excellent results with. Kybella is an injectable drug FDA approved that contours and improves submental fullness as well as can offer skin retraction benefits for mild laxity. If there is only laxity present non surgical tissue tightening with Ultherapy which uses ultrasound technology or Thermi which uses radio frequency may provide an effective outcome. There are surgical treatments available as well to contour and improve the jowls and jawline. The true way to determine candidacy is with an in person examination. Best wishes.

Patients with fat under the chin that you can grab in your hand are the best candidates for Coolsculpting.  It's hard to tell from a photo, but it appears that the fullness under your chin is a bit of loose skin/ skin laxity, not a fat deposit.  Skin laxity is generally best addressed with a skin tightening procedure, like Ultherapy, on the low face and neck.  Also, fillers in the chin and jawline will make the jawline more well defined, and lift the skin so there's less hanging on the neck.Your concern appears mild enough that Ulthera and fillers would do the trick.  Patients who have this problem but more severe, would be better served with plastic surgery (low face/neck lift).

From what it appears from the photos, it looks as if you do not have enough fat to treat with Coolsculpting. However an in person assessment would be needed to determine whether a treatment like Ulthera would help you get the results you seek.
