Can Coolsculpting work for overweight individuals? I had an over active thyroid and received a radiation treatment.

Question

I am now hypo active and take Synthroid daily. The weight has been packing on, but finally seems to have stabilized. I am only 5' 1" tall and weigh nearly 190 lbs and I can't seem to take the weight off. I am particularly interested in having my arms, abdomen and back fat in the bra area done. Would I be a candidate as I am so obese ?? Thank you !!

Based on what you have described, coolsculpting does not seem to be the best option for you. Coolsculpting is not a weight loss procedure and is best used on individuals who are at their ideal weight but still has some pockets of stubborn fat. An in person consultation is always best. Please consult with a board certified plastic surgeon.

CoolSculpting is not a weight loss treatment and is ideally suited to people who have isolated areas of unwanted fat and are at or near their ideal weight.  From your description, it does not sound as if you would be a good candidate for the treatment, but an examination of you would be very helpful to ultimately determine that.

I am sorry to hear about your overactive thyroid and the challenging treatments you’ve undergone for it. CoolSculpting is indicated for individuals who are close to their ideal weight. Unfortunately, you may not be an ideal candidate for CoolSculpting. However, it may be worth a consult with a physician or plastic surgeon that specializes in fat reduction. They may be able to give you a different opinion regarding your coolsculpting candidacy after an in-office evaluation or may be able to suggest a different fat reduction treatment that better suits your needs. This is a great question! I have a staff member in my office who is in the same situation you are in and she had fantastic results with her bra fat. Because Coolsculpting is targeting and destroying fat cells, your weight is not an issue - if you're realistic about your goals. Coolsculpting is not a means of weight loss, only fat reduction of specific areas. It can also serve as a stepping stone to get you on track with your diet and exercising once you start seeing your body change. As always our practice recommends a detailed consultation to access visceral vs. subcutaneous fat and how graspable your fat is.

Coolsculpting is not a weight loss method.  But, it can be used on people who are over their ideal weight to smooth out bulges.  It works well for areas like bra rolls etc.  I find that it jump starts someone's diet and exercise when they feel better about their problem areas.
