It is possible to combine cheek implants, but that is not something that generally needs to be done.Instead of wondering about which type of implant is best, focus instead on the results that you would like to achieve. What are the goals you would like to acheive? Are you interested in lifting a fallen or deflated cheek, or are you trying to give yourself cheek projection that you were never born with? If you can communicate your wants and desires effectively to your doctor, he will be able to come up with a plan to make sure you get the results you desire. For example, depending on your face and your specific circumstances, you may be a better candidate for a filler or fat grafting rather than a surgical implant.
Cheek implants are manufactured in a large variety of sizes( small, medium, large, extra large) and a large variety of shapes( malar, sub-malar, and combined.) The size and shape of the implant are determined at the time of consultation and examination, since both the cheeks and cheek implants are three-dimensional structures. There would be no reason to add a Terino malar shell in addition to a sub-malar implant, when a combined implant is the appropriate shape and size.
There is a specific cheek implant style that is a combined malar-submalar shell that incorporates both designs. But if the questions is one of whether a malar shell cheek implant be placed over a an existing submalar one, the answer would be yes.
Hi, I have performed many cheek augmentations using cheek implants for over 30 years. Yes, there are malar/submalar combination cheek implants. IMHO and based upon the beauty principles outlined in my publkished book on face and body beauty, mens faces look ruggedly handsome when there is angularity in the face. The cheeks, chin and jaw line should be as angularly shaped as possible. This means the cheeks should not extend that far anteriorly (in the front) which a combination malar/submalar implant would do. The vertical dimension of such an implant would create a full, round cheek anteriorly that would feminize the entire face. IMHO, there is a much better option to create an angular, masculine shaped cheek. Hope this helps.
Displacement of the cheek bone from trauma creates classic cheek asymmetry and lower eyelid retraction. This can occur even if the cheek bone is repaired. Secondary reconstruction of these midface deformities years later can require the use of cheek bone augmentation with implants and adjunctive...
It sounds like you may need more Voluma injected with proper placement to improve this malar area. Implants should not be necessary. I really love Sculptra in this area as you can gradually improve this area and the results will last more than two years. Best, Dr. Green
Getting cheek implants is like any other surgery. With proper anesthesia, you should not have too much pain. For recovery, it can take about 3-6 months to heal, so it is important to be careful how you sleep to prevent malposition.
