2 vials restylane for v mild n/l & marionette lines + lips 17 mos ago. Cause of tissue changes post-op? What are the solutions?

Disliked from the start, felt overfilled, waited for it to dissolve. 6 mos in had extreme spontaneous swelling. Now 17 mos overfilled look still a problem. Feel palpable masses under skin both sides. I just want all volume to go away. Dr verifies resty was def used. 3 conservative rounds of vitrase helped maybe minimally but not back to baseline. What is causing? Encapsulation/granuloma? Have visitited new dr, no answer.

You should have it dissolved with Hylanex at a high does. If you are an allergic patients such as to multiple medications or have autoimmune tendencies or diagnosis, or suffer from keloids - after this never get injected again. However, if you do not have allergy sensitivities then consider Refyne or Defyne. In trials, these filler do not lump up. I would suggest not to ever have more than 1 vial at a time to avoid the overfilled look.

Thank you for your question. It is very unlikely that you still have product left in this area after 17 months. Even though it is rare to have an allergic reaction to Restylane it is possible. I recommend having a consultation with an expert for evaluation and proper treatment. Best of Luck!

If you indeed did have Restylane 17 months ago it is very unlikely that there is any still there and allergic reaction to Restylane is very very rare so i suggest you get your medical records and see a board certified dermatologist who is experienced int the use of these materails

If you still feel overfilled from the product it is possible that you are having a reaction from it. I would bring your injection records to an expert in Restylane and cosmetic injections and go for a new consultation.  Best, Dr. Green
