How often can you do a Botox jaw reduction?

I just Botox injection yesterday (Feb. 9th) on my masseter muscles and I am wondering if I can do another injection around May 2nd because I wouldn't be around until September. I wish to keep the result during the whole summer since I know my Feb. injection wouldn't last that long. Is it safe to do another Botox session within 11 weeks?

Botox takes about three to four months to wear off. If you will not be able to get re-treatment at that time, it is fine to do it slightly earlier. You may not need as much Botox during this second treatment if the effects of the first session are still active. The other alternative is to find a practitioner in your new location to handle the re-treatment on schedule. I hope this helps.

It's fine to have another Botox injection after three months to relax your masseter muscles and slim your jaw. Botox normally needs to be touched up around that time. Usually it will not last for more than four to six months. Please consult a board-certified dermatologist for your Botox injections.

Hi and thanks for your question. I would recommend returning to your doctor at the 2 week point so that they can check if they have given you the optimal dose of Botox. Every patient is different and an amount of Botox that works well for one person is too little for another. The goal of Botox for jaw slimming is to break the habit of grinding or clenching. Regular injections (every 3 months) at the optimal dose for a year should accomplish that goal and may keep your jaw slim for a long time. Hope that helps!

Don't worry about doing your Botox touch-up a tad early: Everybody metabolizes Botox differently, so the 3- to 4-month recommendation is just a guideline. One or two weeks either way should be fine. Botox is perfectly safe, so you don't have to worry about getting “too much.” You may need less in this second treatment if your first treatment is still active. Please be sure to get your Botox from a board-certified dermatologist who has expert injection technique.
