A shot of Lovenox. What is the average cost of it?

Gonzalezz3.    Lovonox, a blood thinner, used with abdominal surgery is indicated in patients at higher risk for deep vein thrombosis, which is blood clots in the legs. Severe problems can arise if the clot breaks off and goes to the lungs. Many practices, including ours, includes the medicine as part of the surgical cost, because of its importance.  It costs us around $10 per syringe, but we buy in bulk. You may be able to buy it cheaper on line or at Walmart pharmacies.  There is also an increased risk for blood clots when flying, so be sure to move around and walk frequently on your trip home from Miami, and don't fly too soon after surgery. Thanks for your inquiry, I did an internet search of Lovenox pricing in Florida and it runs from 15-25 dollars a syringe.  Please ask your surgeon's surgery center for more information.  

Hello and thank you for your question. It depends on your insurance provider.  Another option is 5000U heparin injection 30 minutes prior to your case.  That is usually provided by your surgeon's office in the operating room at no additional charge to you.  Ask about that.

The price for Lovenox can vary. Ask the surgeon's office for a price estimate. They should be able to provide one if they regularly recommend this injection for their patients, or they should be able to direct you to someone who can help.

In our practice we will prescribe lovenox ( blood thinner) to patients undergoing abdominoplasty.
A rare occurrence of deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism is a risk of abdomen surgery.
You may also be given sequential compression devices that squeeze on your calves to use in early post operative period.
The cost of lovenox injections is usually nominal.
In the end it is used for your best outcome.
