24 year old Asian with harsh nasolabial lines - options? (Photo)

Greetings Docs, 24 year old w very apparent nasolabial lines - I have very typical east Asian features - rounded face, button nose, minimal cheekbones. Left side wrinkle/line is deeper than right. What are the better options, in my case, to correct them? Would a nose job/facial structural alteration potentially aid in minimizing these lines? My worry is that I won't look like me if there's too much change - I do like my face, mostly. P.S. Both sides of my family have deep nasolabial folds. Thanks!

First, let me say that by no means are your smile lines "harsh." So, don't be so hard on yourself. Second, these days treating nasolabial folds nonsurgically is quite simple with fillers, takes only a few minutes to perform, and typically engenders an immediate "Wow!" response. What's more, in experienced hands, the results should leave you looking improved and like yourself, without any other facial distortions, i.e. just with decreased smile lines. So relax, go easier on yourself, and be sure to seek consultation and treatment by a board certified aesthetic core physician and make sure he/she shows you before and after photos of Asian patients treated for smile lines.

thanks for the photos. that's helpful. sometimes such deep lines that only extend half way thru in a patient as young as yourself can be the result of over-active muscles that help elevate the muscles that make you smile. I have a combined sorta approach for treating such lines. it all depends on who you see for the correction of these lines.

Hyaluronic acid fillers are certainly a very safe and effective option for treating nasolabial folds.I would advise you to see a clinician with proven results and extensive experience in treating this area. I think it would be preferable to be conservative at your young age and try to avoid "over-filling" this area as this can lead to a very "plump" and unnatural appearance. Discuss your concerns in detail with your doctor and come to a mutual and well-informed decision.

I agree with the other doctors on this thread. I think a hyaluronic acid-based filler would give you a very nice correction without changing your face too much. I would recommend either Juvederm Ultra or Restylane for this area. One to two syringes may be required for optimal results. Good luck.

Nasolabial folds are easily corrected with filler. A hyaluronic acid based filler is usually what I would use in a patient similar to you, the filler  will soften the lines and still keep you looking very natural. Fillers such as Juvederm Ultra or Restylane lasts approximately 8 months to 1 year.

If these folds bother you , you can use a soft filler like Restylane or Juvederm but they do not look like folds related to aging and do not bother me one bit. they are normal facial feature that is part of your shape. We are a bit hung up on folds because in older women they represent "age". YOurs represent you. If they really bother you they should be easy to fix.

Fillers will be the way to go --- either Radiessse or your own fat are two of the options. Actually , the lines are not as deep and harsh in the photos as you feel they are.

A rhinoplasty would not diminish the impact of the lines in your nasolabial creases and, to the extent that your nose would be more aesthetically pleasing and thinned, I think it would cause the eye to focus even more on the creases.  You can consider facial fillers such as Radiesse or Juvederm to soften the lines. This is certainly a low cost, nonsurgical option.
