When the nose is shortened, does it cause less air to be inhaled or more? Also, does raising the tip help with breathing?

Does raising the nasal tip aid or worsen the airway? I have found over the years that elevation of the nasal tip actually improves the nasal airway. Most people can test this on themselves by taking a breath through the nose in its normal resting position and taking another breath through the nose while holding the tip up. Most people find that it is easier to breathe through nose while holding the tip up.

Nasal airway obstruction may have many different causes, including sinusitis, rhinitis, smoke / dust exposure, a displaced nasal septum, nasal valve collapse, enlarged turbinates, nasal polyps, enlarged adenoids, and nasal tumors. Treatment is directed toward the offending anatomic structure(s).
If there is no prior obstruction, shortening the nose should not affect the nasal airway. Raising the tip may be of functional significance if there is nasal valve collapse.
Visit a board certified plastic surgeon to learn the source of your breathing problem and undergo appropriate treatment...
