Hi there! After rib harvest, the donor site can have some changes, but I'm unaware of full regrowth of the cartilage after removal. If done correctly, there shouldn't be any chest deformity or functional problem. The inner perichondrium is usually left in place to protect from pneumothorax, though I don't believe this would be enough blood supply to allow regrowth. The superficial perichondrium is very helpful when carved into grafts and placed into the nose because it helps to reduce infection and to maintain shape / prevent warping. Hope this helps.
