I can't believe I had to select 'breast implant revision' as the topic. I'm a so sad. 7w post, natural 36DDD, with weight loss and poor skin elasticity I underwent surgery w/ the goal of a lift and a small implant for upper pole fullness. Doc said no more than 375..he put in approx 500. I am tall (5'10, mid20s). I read about having to revise the pocket with downsizing. Can this be avoided by switching it out sooner + a lift? I want 375/400ccs. Why do doctors do this?

Answer: Choosing the right provider, and choosing implants I would be careful stereotyping doctors based on a single experience. Different plastic surgeons have different ways of guiding patients through implant selection. Plastic surgery outcomes are generally accommodation of patient candidacy, and provider selection. Ultimately, the provider is responsible for the outcome and the patient is responsible for choosing the provider. Breast augmentation outcomes are based on three variables. The patient candidacy, the choice of implant, and the technical ability to place the implant in the correct position. Without seeing quality before and after pictures, we can’t make an assessment. As much as patience would like to hear, yes or no answers few situations and medicine are as clear cut. Each situation is unique, and sometimes downsizing is a simple as exchanging the implant, and sometimes not. We can’t speak on behalf of your provider. Ideally, patience and providers should have a fairly clear understanding of what the goal of the procedure is. Some providers ask patients to select the implant and other providers make the selection based on having an understanding of what the patient is, hoping to achieve. it is very common for patience to wish they went larger with breast augmentation. This is not mean it’s correct to oversize implants beyond what was described during consultation. breast augmentation surgery does have a fairly high revision rate for all surgeons.
