Answer: Preoperative protocol Dear Thrifty851508, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon. Answer: Preparation for a BBL Delivering consistent Quality liposuction and fed transfer results is more difficult than most people believe in this to some degree includes plastic surgeons themselves. The procedure is permanent and irreversible. To minimize regret or ending up with an outcome different than what you had hoped for patience need to put serious effort into finding the right provider. Do that by having multiple in person consultations to find the most talented and experience provider in your community. During in person consultations ask each provider to show their entire collection of before and after pictures of this procedure. For fed transfer confirmed and after pictures are taken at least three months from the date of the procedure. Early postoperative pictures can look very impressive but do not represent final results. Simply being shown sample pre-selected pictures which post likely represent the best results of the providers career is insufficient to get a clear understanding of an average results look like in the hands of each provider. Instead asked to provide her to open up their portfolio and show you as many pictures as possible. Especially ask them to show you as many pictures of patients with similar body characteristics to your own and especially patients your own age. An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you a minimum of 50 sets of before and after pictures and highly experienced surgeons will have hundreds or even thousands of before and after pictures for this commonly performed procedure. When reviewing it before and after pictures look carefully at all areas treated with Liposuction for any evidence of contour irregularities or areas of low quality work. ask the surgeon to help you differentiate between what areas for treated and what areas were not treated with Liposuction and have them point out the transition zone between treated and on treated areas. Different plastic surgeons have very different views of how the BBL should be done. There’s a tendency to create cartoon like caricature buttocks with purposeful liposuction of the thigh to try to make the buttocks look larger. This “lollipop butt”is unnatural and highly undesirable in my opinion. The goal should be to create a smooth harmonious S curve from the shoulders to the knees. The preparation patients should be doing before surgery is continuously working on finding the most talented provider by having a lot of consultations. What do you eat unless you’re a healthy is irrelevant. Pain control will be discussed during a consultation or at least it should be. Find the right plastic surgeon and everything falls into place. These procedures are more difficult to do well than people think and the importance of provider selection is paramount and the time to do so is finite. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
