Who should I see if the wound from pilonidal cyst removal still hasn't healed after 2 years?

I have had 3 surgeries to remove a pilonidal cyst and the last one, 2 years ago, used a different method to heal the area. It was a 3 point area where they took tissue from another section of my butt and filled the gap to speed the process. The wound still has not healed completely. It does not hurt, but there is an opening that occasionally bleeds and won't close. Should I see a specialist, or a plastic surgeon?

Recurrence of pilonidal cyst disease is a problem, unfortunately more common than we would like to see. Laser hair reduction can be helpful. I do see some of these cases and have had success with zplasty rearrangement of the natal cleft. Not everyone will do this procedure. You can ask your general surgeon to help you with a referral. The previous advice from Dr. Core is very good. That was well thought out and reasonable.

I would recommend you see a plastic surgeon at Tulane or LSU medical center or the Ochsner Clinic . They will have more exposure to this type of problem.

You will need to consult with a Colo Rectal surgeon is this cyst has not healed in the past two years. I hope it heals soon.
