Question

I have a Cyst that is developing in the lower eyelid. My eye doctor told me I need to remove it before it gets bigger. she also suggested it may go away by itself. She refereed me to an MD but unfortunately , insurance won't cover and the MD charge few $100s. Can I remove without surgery? And could it go away by itself? Please see pics Thanks, Rafi

The cyst could rupture and go away. It could grow bigger.  It may just stay the same size.  Check your crystal ball to know for sure!  If it does grow it won't be overnight. So, if you are not bothered by the appearance then consider leaving things alone.  If you do want it out go to a plastic surgeon in your area. The cyst appears to be next to your tear drainage system. It should be removed by a specialist, ideally an oculoplastic surgeon. Many people will try to "poke" the cyst to drain it, but it will likely come back within a week or two. I would recommend removing it before it gets much bigger.

Hi. These cysts are common on the eyelid. They can be opened and detained with a needle, but will usually come back unless the entire cyst lining is removed. Your lesion is on the eyelid margin, very close to the opening of the tear duct. Due to this, you should have an oculoplastic surgeon remove it. Do not try to remove it yourself, as you risk damaging the eyelid, tear duct, or the eye itself. Best regards, Ira Vidor, M.D.
