Surgical bra post-op: I am worried that because my original one hasn't been washed yet that it could cause infection if worn?

My surgeon requires me to wear the surgical bra for 6 weeks but I haven't been able to wash it yet. I bought another one but it's not quite as tight fitting or comfortable as the one my surgeon gave me. I have put gauze over the stitches to protect them. Is this ok? I will get the original bra washed in a few days' time, until then what should I do? Many thanks in advance for your answers.
