Sore throat/uncontrollable coughing after breast augmentation surgery. what do I do?

I had BA surgery 5 days ago. As to be expected, my throat hurt and was very dry for 2 days. I have started having coughing fits that last 5+ minutes. It feels like there is hair(?) stuck in the left side of my throat. I find myself gasping for air at points from not being able to breathe in without coughing. Tonight I started throwing up from coughing so much. I was in the bathroom about half hour. My uvula is also black/blue at the bottom. Results of intubation? How do I stop coughing?

Thank you for your question. Could be a result of intubation. However, if you are still in pain and throwing up, you may want to see your plastic surgeon for an in-person assessment.

Hi and welcome to our forum!
Throat irritation is common after any operative procedure requiring intubation. It is usually self limited and will subside within a week or so. A cough suppressant may be of value. However, you are describing episodic shortness of breath, suggesting that your airway may be somewhat compromised. 
I strongly recommend that you see your plastic surgeon for reevaluation ASAP for evaluation and treatment.

Gynn,This is a rare complication (most likely) from an intubation.  I would go see your surgeon ASAP to see what remedies they suggest.  You may also ask to speak to the Anesthesiologist for their recommendation or examination.Best of luck with your recovery.Dr T
