I underwent a hair transplant two weeks ago today. The doctor told me to take Finasteride during one year after the surgery to minimize the impact of the shock loss and boost the results of the surgery. Thing is, after two weeks of use, I am getting gynecomastia and I can see it getting worse. Can I expect a good result even if I don't take Finasteride? Is there anything I can take to minimize or fight this side effect? To sum up; Will it make a big difference in the result? Thank you very much.

Answer: Use of finasteride after hair transplant Hair loss is progressive. That is, you will continue to lose hair unless measures are taken to try to slow it down. The younger you are, the more progressive the hair loss. It is recommended to take measures such as medical therapy to slow the progression of hair loss. The use of finasteride will not improve the results of your hair transplant, but rather by helping to retain your existing hair it will prolong the results of the transplant. If you are experiencing side effects from a medication, you will do best by stopping the medication and consider other options to slow down hair loss such as low level laser light therapy, minoxidil, and/or PRP. Speak with your surgeon and let them know you are experiencing side effects from the medication.

Answer: Hair loss prevention and medications Taking Finasteride and hair loss medications should have been discussed with your hair transplant surgeon before having the procedure. It is extremely important to know that hair loss is progressive. You should be using some sort of preventative regimen. An organic shampoo will help keep your hair healthy. Medications like Finasteride and Minoxidil can be very helpful in maintaining and keeping your existing hair and slowing down your hair loss. PRP therapy is also a great preventative tool.
