Will I need to remove my hair extensions before BBL surgery? They are micro rings. Worried!

My hair extensions are micro rings (tiny metal rings fitted to my own hair) and I have just had them done. I am having surgery in 3 days and seeing different things about having to remove them. Would BBL surgery require me to remove these?

Thanks so much for reaching out. A standard BBL should not require these coming out. Unless you’re having any other surgery that would require the use of electrocautery during the procedure. There is a theoretical risk of the electricity used with that device being directed to the metal and giving you a burn at that location. However BBL typically is not a surgery where electrocautery is used. I hope this helps :-)

This is a very good question and the first time is has come up for me. I don't think there is any need to remove your hair extensions prior to a BBL. Your surgeon will likely have a head wrap on your so your hair is out of the way during the procedure. You will probably want to be careful styling your hair is a manner than makes it easy to cover for the surgery.Other than that I don't think there would be a reason to have them removed. As always, though check with your surgeon!I hope this helps!

If a bovie cautery is not being used, then it is probably ok. You are best to speak with your surgeon first.

If you are only having liposuction and bbl, your hair extensions with micro ring are not a problem. However contact your PS and discuss your concerns with him/her.

Unless you are having another procedure in addition to liposuction and fat transfer to the buttocks, the rings in you hair extensions should be ok. Be sure to check with your personal surgeon as to his or her preference.
