So I heard that there are arteries in your lips, and curiosity washed over me. When getting lip fillers, how do the nurses doing the procedure avoid the arteries? Pictures online are incredibly confusing as some pictures show that the arteries are in the lip and others show they are just outside of the lip. Are the arteries in the lip and how are they avoided!?

Answer: Avoiding Problems During Lip Augmentation KathMaz. Excellent question! Experience and acute understanding of anatomy is of highest importance in any cosmetic procedure. For that reason, I prefer to perform all procedures myself. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Good luck!

Answer: Missing arteries in the lips. Great question. There’s tons of vessels in the face, but the named vessels are the largest. Knowing the human face anatomy like the back of your hand is the most important point in avoiding blood vessels. Safe and gentle techniques for injection have been developed to reduce the risks and should be practiced. It’s not hard, however, to run into smaller vessels without names and have bruising. Good luck.
