Some of the discomfort may be from the surgery itself especially if your muscle fascia was tightened. The garments are really meant for your comfort. In order words, you should feel more comfortable with it on when you are up and about than if it where off. They work by holding tissues still and together against the forces of gravity and movement. If you have any doubt, call your plastic surgeons office.
The binder or garment should not be painful. The first 2 weeks, a wrap around binder is usually used and can be adjusted for comfort.
Healing after a tummy tuck is usually retty straight forward. There is a process of swelling and bruising that peaks at 3 days after surgery and then undergoes the first stage of major resolution in the first 2 weeks after surgery. The lateer phase of healing takes place over the 2-3 months after surgery where everything really settles and softens. It is after this time that we are getting close to the final result, though this varies patient to patient. If you have any questions you should speak to your plastic surgeon directly to get the best informed response.
The compression binder should be more comfortable on than off. The goal of the binder is just to minimize some swelling and to serve as a support when you cough or sneeze. If the binder is overly tight, it can actually negatively impact blood supply to your skin or cause abrasions. Snug but not tight.
Hello,The compression garment or binder should be nice and snug but not painful or causing difficulty breathing. feeling "uncomfortable" is a bit subjective. Many people don't like the constricted feeling even when not overly tight. I recommend that you ask your Plastic Surgeon or nurse at their office to help you ensure that you are wearing it just right. All the best
The garment worn after tummy tuck should be snug but not tight. In other words, it should be tight enough to offer some compression, but not so tight that you are having trouble taking a deep breath. Most patients feel more comfortable in the garment, not less. The best person to ask is really your surgeon, who can help you assess this in person.
I'm sorry you're experiencing some uncomfortable feeling after your surgery with the garment. The garment does need to be tight but not uncomfortable. The garment is meant to help with swelling, and you will notice a difference. Many of my patients tell me that after a couple of days they actually are more comfortable in the garment, and that it provides them much-needed support. You will want to wear this garment for at least two-three weeks. After that point you can meet with your surgeon to reassess if you can change to a smaller garment or take it off all together. I wish you the very best in your healing process and I think you'll really love your results. This is one of those life-changing procedures.
The compression garment should be snug but not uncomfortable. Usually, it actually feels good to wear. The garment is probably most important for the week after your drains are removed to help prevent any fluid accumulation under the skin. After that, wearing a garment for 6 weeks or so may help the swelling to go down a bit faster, but a lighter weight Spanx or no garment at all is fine too.
Generally speaking, garments are meant to be supportive. They are not meant to be "tight" or uncomfortable. On the contrary, garments that are too tight can be problematic. Always best to verify that the garments are a good fit with your plastic surgeons office. Best wishes.
If you have been in remission and on no meds (certainly no steroids) and are otherwise healthy then yes you can potentially be a candidate for tummy tuck. After seeking consultation from a board certified plastic surgeon, you will need to work with your PCP to be medically cleared for surgery. I...
Nothing needs to be done by you during the general anesthesia, the anesthesiologist will take care of everything. It is definitely safe. However, we have our patients bring the nasal CPAP machine from home for the recovery room. It really makes the wake up much easier.
