A revision refers to an adjustment of a previous procedure - this can range along a spectrum from a complete re-do of the tummy tuck to less invasive treatments like liposuction, removal of additional skin or replacing the scar for a new scar in the hopes of improved aesthetics. Hope this helps.
Thank you for your question. A tummy tuck and a tummy tuck revision are two different procedures. A tummy tuck, also known as an abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure that involves removing excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightening the abdominal muscles to achieve a flatter and more toned appearance. The muscle tightening is an important part of the procedure, as it helps to address the separation of the abdominal muscles that can occur with weight gain or pregnancy.A tummy tuck revision, on the other hand, is a procedure that is performed to correct any issues that may have arisen from a previous tummy tuck surgery. The specific details of a tummy tuck revision can vary depending on the extent of the revision and what needs to be revised. If the muscle is still nicely plicated from the initial tummy tuck, there may be no need to retighten it during the revision. In general, a tummy tuck revision may involve addressing issues such as excessive scarring, residual loose skin, or the need for additional muscle tightening. It's important to note that a tummy tuck revision is typically a more complex procedure than a standard tummy tuck, and as such, it requires a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon to perform it safely and effectively.I hope this information has been helpful in clarifying the difference between a tummy tuck and a tummy tuck revision. If you are considering either procedure, I encourage you to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon who can evaluate your individual needs and goals and develop a personalized treatment plan. Thank you again for your question, and I wish you the best of luck in your journey.Sincerely, Dr. Katzen.
A Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty typically consists of first-time removal of excess abdominal skin, the tightening of the abdominal wall, and occasionally liposuction if necessary. "Tummy Tuck Revision" is the term used to describe going back in to surgery for any additional work (excess skin removal or abdominal wall repair) that needs to be done to improve the results of a previously done tummy tuck/abdominoplasty procedure. Tummy Tuck Revision would be the procedure option if a patient is unsatisfied with their previous results, or they are needing additional correction after weight gain/fluctuation. It is imperative to do your proper research and search for a qualified physician to perform your initial procedure. Any surgery is at risk for needing a revision, however, making sure your physician is Board Certified and has a lot of experience in your desired procedure can lower your chances of needing revision work.
Hi hadrab,Tummy tuck is an all encompassing term that for most means removal of excess lower abdominal skin and fat, liposuction of the flanks/hips, and possibly tightening of the abdominal wall. The umbilicus is re-sited during a tummy tuck as well (full, not mini).A tummy tuck revision might address right to left differences after an initial tummy tuck, or revise scars or perform additional liposuction....the revision would be individualized to the results of the first tummy tuck, in an attempt to improve upon them.Hope this helps!Best,Christopher Pannucci MDBoard Certified Plastic SurgeryPlastic Surgery NorthwestSpokane, Washington
Hello hadrab, Its not essential to do a muscle tightening during every tummy tuck revision. The excess fat and skin is removed. But if the muscle tone is not good, or during surgery if the muscles are found loose then doing a muscle tightening might be needed and it will help to get better results. A detailed pre surgical examination by a board certified plastic surgeon can give a hint whether it will be required during the surgery or not. Hope this helps. Thank you for your query.
Revising a tummy tuck can be either just removal of more skin around the scar to redoing the whole thing including muscle work. It depends on your particular situation
Dear hadrab,it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, revision surgery is every surgery done after the first one. If you are considering surgery, I would suggest you consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination, you will get more information and recommendations.Daniel Barrett, MDCertified, American Board of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Plastic SurgeryMember, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Most revisions are not as involved as the tummy tuck, not remove as much skin, or tighten the muscle. Many can be done under local anesthesia.
Tummy tuck revision requires reopening your incision and retightening your muscles. A tummy tuck scar revision works by fixing any irregularities in your scar
Good morning,Depending on what your goals/issues are, they can be very different. Usually a first time tummy tuck is relatively straightforward because there is no scar tissue or old sutures to deal with. Also depending on your anatomy, muscle tightening may or may not be required again. A board certified plastic surgeon can better assess you during a consultation to help answer these questions more definitively!Best,Shuja Shafqat, MD
The occurrence of complications during abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) can vary depending on several factors, including the patient’s health, the surgeon’s experience, and the type of abdominoplasty performed. Common complications can include infection, bleeding, seroma (fluid accumulation), poo...

Hi there, thank you for your question and photos. Based on your photos it can be said that a tummy tuck is an operation that can address your problems because it seems that you have both extra fat and excess skin. Liposuction alone wouldn’t help the excess skin to disappear. With a tummy tuck b...
