Question

My injector told me before injection that my lips were totally symmetrical. Have already gone back once for massage. Should I dissolve one side or add a little more filler to the smaller side? If I add a little more will it cost money? Lip on one side smaller and hangs down a bit more. The reason I did this in the first place is because I didn't like my lip and I feel like I wasted my money.

Hi,Thank you for your question and sharing your photos.Depending on your preference for the bigger or smaller side, you could go either way. The upper lip is mildly asymmetric and would be easier to add a little bit extra filler to improve the symmetry. Typically there is an associated cost with this as a new product will have to be opened for you. Alternatively, you can dissolve a little bit of the filler on the bigger side with hyaluronidase but I caution all of my patients that the end result is unpredictable as it is an enzymatic reaction and difficult to control the precision. Usually there is no cost to dissolving the filler if it is injected by the same office but there is a possibility that too much filler may be dissolved and you may continue to have some asymmetry.Hope this helps!

My personal opinion would be if you do not mind this slightly larger side, I would add a small amount of product to the smaller side to improve symmetry. I believe this has a tendency to be more accurate in correction than trying to dissolve the slightly larger side of the lip.

It would be much easier to add a tiny amount to the lesser side.If you try to diminish it with the enzyme you have a much greater chance of a noticeable asymmetry. This is not exact with the enzyme and I think you will not be happy with the outcome. Everyone is asymmetric. I doubt most people would notice your slight difference and your lips look lovely. We are our own worse criticsIf they have to open a new syringe there most likely be some type of charge.

Looking at your last two photos and assuming your lower face is relaxed, I would suggest to have a controlled and partial dissolution on the left. It would be interesting to see your lips before the injection since your entire upper lip, including filtrum, are way too prominent. I wouldn't bet surprised if that is the reason for your overall dissatisfaction. Good luck!

Thank you for your question. Typically, if you used all of your filler during the first round of injections, then you will have to pay for another syringe. If you wish to have some filler dissolved, most facilities will not make you pay for this - but it is an inexact science and sometimes needs to be done multiple times in order to achieve the results you desire. The good news is that, regardless of what you do, over the next couple of months things will settle out as you absorb the filler. It's really just about how much this bothers you, as to whether or not you want to take the next step. Best of luck!

as long as you like the way your larger side looks and you don’t have lots of bumps in the lips (which then I would dissolve), I would just inject a small amount more into the other side to help even them. Many (but not all) injectors will correct things like this at reduced cost or no cost to you. If a patient wants more justice because they want more, o charge then. If it is something I need to correct, I do not charge them but that is my practice. The difference is pretty subtle and I suspect more noticeable to you than others.
