Sometimes trauma can destabilize the nose, but this may not be the case.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
Nasal fractures may result in no change to the outward appearance, or they can be significantly deforming. The nose has many parts that give it structure and support. Injury to bone, cartilage, connective tissues and skin all can contribute to this. Scar tissue development following injury can also cause delayed deformity as the wounds mature. Besides the outward appearance of the nose, the function of the nose can be compromised as well if the nasal airway becomes narrowed.
Trauma to the nose can substantially change the appearance including contour abnormalities, widening of the base, tip malposition, and scarring. The photograph would be useful in assessing the specific problem.
Thank you for your question . Nasal and septal fractures are a commong cause of tip widening, nasal deviation and tip drooping. Septorhinoplasty can help to improve the shape and contour of your nose. Cartilage grafting is usually necessary to reinforce the changes. Best wishes.
A nasal fracture may cause deviation or a shape change or may not cause any change at all. It is best to be seen in person to be properly evaluated.
Trauma to the nose can fracture the nasal bones, and fracture the upper lateral cartilages off of the nasal bones. To repair a nasal fracture, medial and lateral osteotomies of the nasal bones are performed. A septal fracture is repaired with a septoplasty, to improve air flow through the nose. Spreader grafts are placed underneath a fractured upper lateral cartilage to give symmetry to the nose and improve air flow as well.
It is possible to have tip work only, but a full assessment of the nose would need to be performed to ensure you obtain the best possible result. I would recommend a consult with a board certified rhinoplasty specialist. He/she will evaluate your nose and determine what you may benefit from....
I think that tip refinement and alar base modification would be appropriate.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
