When I was a kid, I had nasal cauterization due to frequent nose bleeds. Many years later, I wish to get a rhinoplasty but I am wondering if the nasal cauterization might in any way lead to complications with the rhinoplasty surgery. Thanks for the information.

Answer: I have had a nasal cauterization in the past. Can I still get a rhinoplasty surgery? Your prior cauterization should not cause an issue. However, your pre-surgery evaluation will focus on your nose and any damage caused by the prior cauterization. Your chosen surgeon will be able to give you very specific advice but it is unlikely to cause an issue.

Answer: Rhinoplasty after nasal cauterization? A prior nasal cauterization should not interfere with a rhinoplasty.I would suggest you find a plastic surgeon with extensive nasal surgery experience who is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) or a facial plastic surgeon that you trust and are comfortable with. You should discuss your concerns with that surgeon in person.Robert Singer, MD FACSLa Jolla, California
