I have had a nasal cauterization in the past. Can I still get a rhinoplasty surgery?

When I was a kid, I had nasal cauterization due to frequent nose bleeds. Many years later, I wish to get a rhinoplasty but I am wondering if the nasal cauterization might in any way lead to complications with the rhinoplasty surgery. Thanks for the information.

Cauterization is used chemically or electrically create a small burn to stop nosebleeds. After a few days to weeks, the skin inside the  nose called mucosa should heal. Sometimes aggressive cautery can cause other issues. A few reasons for recurrent nosebleeds are large delicate blood vessels on the septum, a cold, allergies, vigorous blowing or picking as well as a deviated septum. When the septum is crooked, it makes a wall that dry air can hit and dry out further causing nosebleeds. Fixing the septum can help this.

Having had cautery to nose as a child should not affect you having a rhinoplasty as an adult.  Seek out a surgeon with extensive experience in rhinoplasty as it truly is a sub specialty of plastic surgery.   They should examine the inside of your nose as well to make sure the lining wasn't damaged prior to performing your surgery.  Hope this was helpful.

Since you had the nasal cauterization done many years ago, there should not be an issue with having rhinoplasty surgery at this time.  The septum, which was cauterized, would be fully healed by now.

Your prior cauterization should not cause an issue. However, your pre-surgery evaluation will focus on your nose and any damage caused by the prior cauterization. Your chosen surgeon will be able to give you very specific advice but it is unlikely to cause an issue.

A childhood nasal cauterization should have no impact whatsoever on receiving a rhinoplasty.  Because it was years ago, your septum (the cauterization area) will have fully healed.  However, you should still have a specialized plastic surgeon examine your nasal area carefully, so as to fully be certain that no damage will occur, once you do get the rhinoplasty. Your best bet would be to consult with a doctor who is well versed in rhinoplastic procedures, with years of experience and specialization.
