Thankyou very much for your question and congratulations on your recent eyelid lift.It is good to hear that you are happy with your results and have found yourlashes thicker than before surgery. However, the two are most likely unrelated.A blepharoplasty will not make lashes thicker or longer. In some rare cases, the surgery may actually make the lashes appear somewhat thinner. Even thoughit is only by coincidence, you should still enjoy your surgical results andyour longer lashes.
Eyelash thickening is not a common side effect of eyelid surgery. You are fortunate, because on rare occasions patients can notice the opposite, thinning of eyelashes after eyelid surgery.
To be honest, I have yet to get feedback from patients regarding any thickening of eyelashes. Typically you might see a slight thinning which should rectify itself in time. I am glad to hear of this result as this makes the benefit of the procedure that much more. Although, I would not expect this to be a long term result.
Those two things are unrelated. Eyelash thickness and eyelid surgery don't have a connection positively or negatively
Thickening of the eyelashes following surgery is very rare. In fact, the opposite, thinning of the eyelashes, is frequently seen. Both are likely to be temporary. Trauma may stimulate growth of hair follicles which likely results from the same effect as the drug, bimatoprost (Latisse) which causes all of the hair follicles to be in the growth phase (anagen) at the same time.
I must admit that I have not known this to happen before, but what a great reason to recommend eyelid( assuming it was necessary to do eyelid surgery in the beginning)! Congratulations!Frank Rieger M.D. Tampa Plastic Surgeon
