I have 10.7 hemoglobin. Can surgery be done with those levels?

I had the sleeve gastrectomy surgery 2 years ago and now I want to get a breast lift with implants. However, My hemoglobin count is low 10.7 my surgery is in 16 days. Can surgery be done with those levels or should I postpone my surgery? Im already taking 3 iron pills a day with vitamin c.

I would certainly make your PS aware of that.  There is seldom much blood loss with lifts and augmentations so i suspect you would be ok.  I would ask your PS for a B12 shot and ask the physician who did your gastric sleeve what else you can do to get your hemoglobin higher.

Hi. Most surgeons require a minimum of 10.0 prior to surgery. More iportant is whther or not you are symptomatic at a level of 10.7. I have operated on patinets that are walking around and exercising at hemoglobins less than 10.  However, the higher, the better. If you can manage to getit closer to 12, then I would encourage you to do so prior to surgery. Good luck, Dr. PG

Anemia is a consequence of weight loss surgery. I require at least a hb of 11.0 or more. Best to discuss with your chosen surgeon...
