SCUBA diving after Breast Lift and Implants?

Thanks so much to all the doctors who answered my first question. There are defiantly differing opinions. So that has prompted my next question. How soon do you tell your patients when they can swim and how about scuba diving?

Thank you for your question. This definitely depends on how the healing process went.  You definitely do not want to swim or Scuba dive if you have any open wound or recently healed wounds.  I usually tell patients 8-10 weeks before submerging for extended periods of time as long as the wounds healed well.

It is difficult to imagine, for me at least, how either scuba diving or  swimming would be detrimental in a well healed lift and segment. Myself I would give it a month and if the incisions are all solidly  healed I'd go ahead.  Haven't had anyone fall apart with that approach. Incidentally I have had pts tell me that their implants felt softer after diving. Surgeons   tend to be very conservative by nature and will give long time limits based on nothing other than guess and opinion. There is very little evidence to support waiting 3-4 months.

Follow up with your Plastic Surgeon so he can monitor your healing, as every patient heals at different rates.  In general, many patients resume scuba diving within 9 to 12 weeks.  Best wishes!
