Hi there! I am scheduled for 360 lipo. I am on many Facebook Lipo groups and there are tons of posts about lymphatic massages/drainage. I've read from hundreds of patients that massage is just as important as the procedure itself and without correct & frequent massages, I will develop fibrosis and get subpar results. Obviously I will speak with my PS at my pre-op, however I wanted to see what other doctors had to say about it. Is lymphatic massage necessary to achieve optimal results? Thanks!
Answer: Are lymphatic massages necessary to achieve optimal results with 360 lipo? Hello and how are you. I always recommend patients do at least ten to twenty lymphatic drainage massages after their procedures. We recommend that these massages be done by a massage therapist that specializes in lymphatic drainage. If you do them by yourself, it may harm your results and you may heal improperly. Lymphatic drainage massages are absolutely necessary. Another reason these massages are important is protecting your invest in your body to maximize your results.

Answer: Post-Liposuction After Care -- Compression, Lymphatic Massage, Hyperbaric Oxygen, Radiofrequency (Venus Legacy, Exilis, Forma) Swelling post-lipo can persist for months, so it's important to be on the right after-care protocols. In addition to compression, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and radiofrequency treatments, lymphatic massage is highly effective in the prevention of fluid buildup, scar tissue, inflammation, and infections. Lymphatic massage also decreases the chance of irregularities, lumps or bumps; accelerates healing and minimizes downtime; and, following a liposculpture procedure, can help further contour the abdominals. I recommend that my liposculpture patients receive lymphatic massage treatments every day for a week following their procedure; twice per week for the following month; and then once per week until healing is complete. I recommend following up with your physician (or with a hi-definition physique expert) about best after care practices. Best, Dr. Emer.

Answer: Massage and liposuction There is zero scientific evidence that massage has any impact on the final Liposuction outcomes. My practice has been focused exclusively on only liposuction and fat transfer for over 10 years. I’ve performed over 7000 Liposuction procedures. The development of fibrosis, excess scar tissue and aesthetic bad outcomes is purely related to surgical incompetence. The only variable that matters is who does the procedure. When done correctly all patients heal nicely without complications from Liposuction. There appears to be great temptation to blame poor outcomes and things other than surgical technique.
