I had periareolar breast augmentation about 3 months ago and I am so unhappy with my scars. They are very red and there are multiple red dots outside of the areola from the stitch knots. Also the inferior portion of the periareolar scar is beginning to be very hard. I have used mederma and new gel. I also used the silicone sheets which seemed to make them even more red. Any suggestions? Is this just what I'm stuck with?
Answer: Post op scar It is really too soon post-op to assess a final outcome. As hard as it is, please be patient and let the swelling resolve and the implants drop. Best of luck.

Answer: Scars These can take up to a year or two to soften and lighten in color. I would continue to massage. If it worsens, then I would contact your surgeon.

Answer: Normal Healing Your scars seem to be healing normally. I would recommend continuing with the silicone sheeting and gel. It will take 12-18 months to see the most improvement of your scars. Best wishes on your recovery.

Answer: Breast Implant It is still a little early but it does seem you are doing everything you can do and it does not look like anything bad is happening. Sometimes I send patients to a dermatologist who has all the lasers because they can usually do something to make people happier

Answer: Scars Scars do tend to fade over time and your scars are still considered "new". Be patient with scar creams, gels, strips as it takes several months to see the results. Scars go through a maturation process where they initially get thicker, then start to soften and fade. If after a year or so you are still unhappy you can discuss alternative options such as surgical scar revision. Good luck.
