The prescription for wearing compressive garments comes from your own surgeon. I see no problem in a brief respite from use of these garments. There is no evidence that these garments used in any capacity has a long-term effect on the outcome from liposuction.
It is best to wear the compression garments as long as possible as it helps keep you swelling down. This will also decrease your discomfort as you are more likely to feel sore if you are more swollen. While it is not likely to cause damage to your results to remove the garment for short periods, it is likely you will "miss it" and want to put it back on again. If the garment itself is too uncomfortable or cannot be well concealed underneath your clothes, then at least wear some compressive undergarments such as spanx.
I have my patients wear compression for 4-6 weeks post liposuction. The first 2 weeks are stronger compression. Each physician has their belief on this and you should consult your physician for his/her post-operative plan for you. Best, Dr. Emer.
Every surgeon has his or her preference of how to manage garments. I typically requested patient keep on the garment up until 72 hours after the surgery. Then the garment is worn about 23 hours a day for the next six weeks. It should be okay for you to take off your garment periodically doing today.
Compression garments should be worm a minimum of 3-4 weeks following a liposuction procedure. However, every surgeon has his or her individual protocol for after surgery instructions. Be sure to follow your surgeon's instructions.
Postoperative garments are key to achieving the best results after liposuction. Garments compress your tissues to maximize skin shrinkage with a smooth result. Every surgeon will have their protocol so you should check with your surgeons recommendation. A majority of surgeons will recommend staying in the garment for 72 hours, and after this time frame wearing it for at least 23 hours a day for 3 to 6 weeks after surgery. Garments can be cumbersome, especially during the summer when the temperature is hot, but they are key to achieving the best result.
I usually have patients were compression garments for three to six weeks after surgery. They can certainly take it off for short periods of time if it is not comfortable. Always good to ask your surgeon.
yes, certainly in my practice. I like to have clients return in one or two days, to change to a new garment, as I like be able to advise whether the bruising is normal or not. Likewise who wants to wait 2 weeks for a shower?
