What is wrong with my nipples and will I be able to breastfeed? (Photo)

I was born like this and it runs in the family. They get hard when cold or touched But otherwise they are just flat. I don’t think they’re just inverted nipples because they are outside all the time, just shaped like lips. My mother couldn’t breastfeed but I heard that breastfeeding doesn’t really depend on nipple shape/size. I just hope I will be able to breastfeed!

Yes, you have some excess areolar skin which can be excised if you want. This could probably be done in the office under local anesthesia. It might take more than one session to not distort the breast.

There is no increased risk of cancer from just having surgery. However, you might have more difficulty with breast feeding in the future.
