Will Aldactone help me retain less fluid after surgery?

Question

I am having tummy tuck surgery next week and I keep hearing there can be quite a lot of swelling, which of course I expect. I take aldactone 100mg a day for hormonal acne - my doctor says it is fine to continue through surgery. Wondering if it will help me retain less fluid in the days and weeks post surgery? TIA.

I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors.It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery.

Surgical fluid does not respond well to medication, but does go away as your injured lymphatics begin to work.  Wearing compression garments can be helpful and avoiding too much activity early on in the healing process.

Post operative swelling is common and expected after surgery.  In order to minimize this it is best to closely follow your surgeon's instructions.  Wearing compression garments is helpful as is avoiding excessive sodium intake.  I've included a video about pre and post op nutrition that I hope you find helpful.
