Vicryl suture stitches repelled by body & will not go away?

Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear of your scar issues.  Depending on your current scar appearance and stage of healing you would likely benefit from either a scar revision with use of a different suture material or going in to remove the vicryl sutures to clear the immune/scarring response.  Be sure to see a board certified plastic surgeon in consultation.

Sometimes, sutures can cause your body to form a chronic inflammatory response around them called a suture granuloma. This can result in long-lasting redness or irritation within a scar that never seems to heal and can occasionally drain tiny amounts of fluid. If the suture is shallow enough to be visible, some surgeons may feel comfortable enough to snip and remove them during an office procedure. The best next step to do is to have the scar examined by the surgeon who performed the most recent closure and have them determine whether those dots under the skin are in fact sutures and what treatment options are available. Obviously, the first step is to avoid vicryl suture if another revision is necessary.  I have personally found that Embrace dressings, which off load the tension during the crucial early healing phase, have mad a tremendous difference in my scars.
