Breast fistula removal and implants (Photo)

Question

I had my nipples pierced four years ago, had them in for a few months then removed them because of infection in my right nipple. The infection would seem to clear up then abscess back again. I developed a fistula from the infection. Last year I had the fistula and the track and some glands around it removed. I have been problem free and the surgeon said I could get implants once it healed. What is your opinion I would like them but am I a good candidate?

Thanks for reaching out.  It is very insightful of you to worry about how a nipple infection could compromise surgery.  However it sounds like the nidus of infection has been removed.  I would recommend giving it 6-12 months to make sure that it doesn't come back before pursuing an implant.  I hope this helps :)

If there is an open area that is draining anything whatsoever then it is not a good idea to have any kind of surgery with implants until this is fully cleared up. Otherwise you will be OK

I am glad to hear the the problem area has been corrected.  I believe you undergo Breast surgery at any time.  I would check with your surgeon and see what they think.
