In July 2015, I had my first injection of 25 units total. In October 2015, I had another 28 units total. I only noticed VERY subtle jaw slimming effect. I went to a new doctor who insisted on 32 units total for a third treatment the end of April this year. My face has dramatically narrowed & my cheeks appear sunken. I am really upset about this. Will my face fill out again to size before treatment if I permanently stop the botox? I read things online about it being permanent & that scares me.

Answer: Botox and Jawline I think you have asked this questions many times on here. Botox is reversible after 3-4 months and the masseter muscle will regrow/strengthen after the botox wears off back its normal size. Best, Dr. Emer.

Thank you for sharing your experience and I am sorry that your results were not what you anticipated. Botox effects are temporary and I would anticipate you to regain your facial shape over the next several weeks to months. Once the Botox has worn off, your masseter muscles will start to hypertrophy to their pre-Botox size in response to normal chewing activities. Hope that this helps.

Answer: Botox wears off and you get back to normal Have no fear. the Botox will wear off and you will start using those muscles again. It will take a bit of time for them to muscle up but they will.

Answer: Thinning of face after botox in your masseter Dear hbruno13,The same thing happened to me with only 20 units, and while I wasn't grinding, and I too hated the look. I thought I looked so much older (I am twice your age). Once it wore off I went back to normal, and I would suspect that you will as well. It likely had less to do with the total amount injected, but more because it was repeated, allowing your muscle to atrophy even further with several more months of inactivity. I would not do it again, be faithful with your bite guard, and if you need to build your muscles back up after it wears off chew a lot of gum. You could always do something like Sculptra to add volume, but I would just let everything get back to normal. Your face will thin with age, but no need to speed up the process with botox in your masseter.
