I'm contemplating getting lip filler done and have come across the microdroplet technique. This looks to be less invasive than other methods but I have noticed the doctors I've watched don't aspirate. Does this mean the risk of occlusion is less with the micro droplet technique than other methods ? Is this because of using an insulin syringe?

Answer: Lip augmentation Dear ashafae, every injector has a preferred technique. I perform a lot of lip injections with fillers such as juvederm and it works great. Many times I need to put more in one side than the other to attempt to even out the vermillion border (The red line of the lip). This helps provide more symmetry at times. For patients looking for a more long lasting result, I recommend fat grafting. That is, using your own bodies fat to make your lips naturally look more shapely. The bonus is that the results last many many years. In general, I avoid using permanent prosthesis because I find that the lips are such dynamic and sensitive structures, the end result is not natural. Answer: Micro droplet technique question A micro droplet technique was developed to be used with silicone injections. Today's fillers do not require the same approach as it simply does not make the procedure any safer. Generally speaking a single syringe of hyaluronic acid can be used in the lips very safely as long as it is done by a plastic surgeon with much experience in lip augmentation procedures. I hope this helps and good luck from New York City plastic surgery
